Prof. Gyula O.H. Katona gave a lecture named “Some combinatorial problems motivated by their applications” at AMSS on June.7, 2012. Prof. HU Xiaodong, the Vice-director of Institute of Applied Mathematics, AMSS, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) presided over the meeting.

In his lecture, he introduced some achievements he made in three combinatorial mathematics problems, and the applications of combinatorial mathematics methods in databases management, data analysis and cryptography. In addition, as a former director of Rényi Institute of Math, he made a brief introduction on its history and presence.

Prof. Gyula O.H. Katona is one of the world-renowned experts in combinatorial mathematics. He is currently the Member of the European Academy of Sciences and the Ordinary Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
