　  On August 25th, 2012, the first union seminar of materials and environment was held in Beijing by the division of materials and environment. More than 30 members attended this seminar which was host by researcher Chen Zhiming, the director of the research department.

　  The topic of the seminar was the interdisciplinary research between the mathematics and materials. Eight members include Zhou Aihui made great reports about their latest research progresses in materials and computing domain. Future potential combinations between the two subjects were deeply analyzed in the reports as well.

　  The union seminar is a kind of series seminar whose purpose is to promote the interdisciplinary research in mathematics and materials, environment, energy etc.. It is planed to hold once every two month, discussing a certain topic elaborately, to enhance the academic communication and collaborations among the inner members in the department of materials and environment and also the researchers in other departments.
