Prof. Peter Deuflhard gave the lecture named “Scientific Computing - the Hidden Key Technology” at AMSS on April.12, 2013.
In his talk, he mentioned three problem classes from application: computational biotechnology, computational medicine, and computational nano-photonics. For each of these classes, he started with the underlying mathematical basic research, continued with its introduction into the technological field and then ended with the impact of mathematics to this application area.
Professor Peter Deuflhard is a world famous applied mathematician. He is the founder of the ZIB institute in Freie University Berlin and Co-founder of DFG Research Center MATHEON. He is the recipient of many awards like Damkohler Medal, ICIAM Maxwell prize etc. He was elected as the SIAM fellow and member of the European Academy of Sciences.
