2013-11-16 Prof. YUAN Yaxiang is invited to give 45-minute sectional lecture at ICM 2014. Prof. YUAN Yaxiang is recognized for his contributions to nonlinear optimization, particularly on trust region methods, quasi-Newton methods and nonlinear conjugate gradient methods. He received many awards, including the second Prize of National Natural Science Award in 2006, the Shiing- Shen Chern Mathematics Award of Chinese Mathematical Society in 2011. He was elected as a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and a new CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) academician in 2011. The International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) is the largest international congress in the mathematics community. It is held once every four years under the auspices of the International Mathematical Union (IMU). The Fields Medals, the Nevanlinna Prize, the Gauss Prize, and the Chern Medal are awarded during the opening ceremony on the first day of the congress. |
