A system of linear equations can be solved by the matrix splitting iteration method. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the convergence of the iteration method, obtain formulas connecting the fields of values of the involved matrices, and show the effectiveness of the skew-symmetric iteration method when it is used to solve a wide class of linear systems with the matrices having spectrum in both left-half and right-half planes.
